It is a well-known fact that Google loves Wikipedia. And it is also quite clear why. The thing is that Wikipedia has a really decent number of pages indexed in Google due to links that connect all those pages with each other. And as a note, remember that the more pages you have the better it is.
Not so long people were spamming Wikipedia (as you know all content in Wikipedia is user generated.) with articles with links to their own websites to receive more external links this way. And some of them succeeded as Google increased their site’s Page Rank because of a great number of those external links in Wikipedia and links also helped in increasing traffic to the linked site.
